The theme for the International Youth Day 2017 is Youth Building Peace, which is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace.

The Minister indicated to the efforts exerted to increase job opportunities and enable youth to gain necessary skills they need to actively take part in building society and enter the labor market, not to mention the special attention paid to distinction, creativity and innovation.

In a similar context, the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs continued its efforts to formulate a draft multi-sector national framework for youth and adolescents in Syria following a case study discussion on several youth, the obstacles facing them and other topics related to education, health, work, protection and societal participation.

The national framework aligns with the UNSC resolution No. 2250 (2015) on youth, peace and security and other recommendations to increase inclusive representation of youth in decision-making at all levels, consider the needs of affected youth and provide them with appropriate job opportunities, said Hadil al-Asmar, Chairperson of the Commission.

For his part, Dean of the Higher Institute of Population Studies and Research, Akram al-Qash said that an estimated 30% of Syria’s population aged between 15 and 30 and the young people aged between 15 and 45 represent more than half of all, therefore the Syrian society is considered a young society.

He underlined the importance of youth-volunteering initiatives through which the Syrian youth were able to provide material, moral and psychological support to terror-affected families and raise their awareness.
