Jan 05, 2014

Damascus, (SANA) – Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the World Health organization (WHO), held a scientific symposium in Damascus on Sunday on Syria’s response to the polio virus and the challenges facing the vaccination campaign.

Assistant Minister of Health Dr. Osama Sammaq, said that the symposium aims at keeping doctors up-to-date with the Ministry’s plan to eradicate the virus, adding that the international organizations are keen on combating polio as it can spread too fast.

For their part, Rudolph Tingerman and Chris Maher of the WHO said that Syria’s response to the threat was swift, adding that the WHO is facing a destructive media similar to what the Syrian Ministry of Health is encountering.

In turn, Head of the Health Care at the Ministry of Health, Ahmad al-Abboud, said that the Ministry is facing huge challenges as to complete the vaccination campaign and ensure the arrival of doses to all areas.
