DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Minister of Tourism Lamia Assi stressed the need for exerting more efforts to highlight Syria's tourist destinations and archeological sites, particularly those related to religious tourism.
Meeting Patriarch Ignatius IV (Hazim) of Antioch and All The East at al-Mariamite Church in Damascus, Minister Assi said that a Religious Tourism Directorate has been established, indicating to the role of Patriarchate in activating such kind of tourism though identifying Christian pilgrimage sites, in addition to documenting information and preparing brochures.
For his part, Patriarch Hazim said "We are proud that we are Syrians since Syria has been the cradle of civilization, religious tolerance, amity and fraternity," expressing readiness to cooperate with the Ministry in terms of religious tourism.
He stressed that meeting several delegations that visited Syria recently, he was able to convey the real image of the situation in Syria, adding that Syria is heading to a new stage and that security and stability will be resorted to the country.
