Medvedev Visits Syria This Week

Damascus, (SANA)- President Dmitry Medvedev of the Russian Federation and his wife will pay a 2-day official visit to Syria this week.

The Russian President will hold talks with President Bashar al-Assad and senior Syrian officials on the bilateral relations and latest developments in the region and the world.

In August 2008, President al-Assad paid a visit to Russia upon an invitation from President Medvedev.

During the visit, Presidents al-Assad and Medvedev held talks on regional issues, calling for boosting up bilateral relations.

The two leaders stressed the key role of the Syrian-Russian relations regarding the international issues.

In May 2009, President al-Assad received a letter from President Medvedev on bilateral relations and regional developments.

Wide-ranging political, economic and trade cooperation agreements were signed between the two countries.
