Ministry of Environment on WED Launches National Eco-Observatory towards Green Economy

Jun 06, 2012

DAMASCUS, (SANA)- Ministry of Environment on Wednesday organized several activities that serve the ecologic work on the occasion of World Environment Day (WED), whose theme for 2012 is 'Green Economy: Does it include you?', launching the National Eco-Observatory.

The Eco-observatory depends on establishing a data base about the environmental situation and analyzing it via computer programs to obtain swift information and boost cooperation, in addition to exchanging expertise with the other ministries through providing statistic reports for helping make suitable decisions.

Minister of Environmental Affairs, Kawkab al-Daya, clarified that transforming into the green economy or development is an important opportunity to achieve a sustainable economic development.

This year's motto : 'Green Economy: Does it include you?' comes at a time when the world is getting ready for convening UN Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20, as WED provides an opportunity for a typical transformation into a more sustainable world.
