Baghdad, (SANA) – The US State Department called on the leaders of the Middle East to stop funding and recruiting for the Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organizations Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra and curb the flow of foreign fighters to Syria.
A statement issued by the US Embassy in Baghdad in Monday called on the region's leaders to take steps to prevent the funding and recruiting for terrorists groups including the aforementioned two, saying that many of the foreign fighters who go to Syria end up carrying terrorist attacks in Iraq.
The statement accused ISIS of the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq, saying that it's an offshoot of Al Qaeda which is a mutual enemy of the US and Iraq and poses a threat to the Middle East.
Recently, Amnesty International issued a report confirming that ISIS is responsible for abduction, torture and murder of detainees in secret jails it established and called Turkey and Arab Gulf countries to curb the arming of this group.
It should be noted that the governing regimes of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey openly and unabashedly fund and arm terrorist groups in Syria.
