Ban Ki-Moon: Syria respects time limit for dismantling chemical production capacity

Oct 29, 2013

New York, (SANA) - UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, said that Syria has respected the time limit appointed at the first of November to dismantle its capacity of producing chemical weapons.

AFP quoted Ban as saying Monday in the Security Council's report that the inspectors of Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Organization confirmed that the chemical weapons' production capacity and means of mixing and filling them were destroyed at all sites in the country.

He added that the actual destruction of production capacity announced by Syria will take place as scheduled at the beginning of November, stressing that the Syrian government showed complete cooperation.

Last September, Syria joined Chemical Weapons Convention, expressing readiness to implement all requirements involved in signing the treaty.
