Tehran, (SANA)-Any war against Syria will have consequences on the whole region and will not be limited to its borders, Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security at Iranian Shura Council, Alaeddin Boroujerdi said.
In a press statement following his meeting in Damascus Saturday with Speaker of the People's Assembly, Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, Boroujerd said "Our visit to Syria comes to express support to the axis of resistance and opposition to any aggression or war against it."
Earlier, Boroujerdi reiterated his country's firm and principled stance in defending Syria, the axis of the resistance in the region in the region.
In a statement before heading to Syria on Saturday, Boroujerdi warned that the war on Syria will ignite the region as the Zionist entity and the West will be the main affected sides.
He asserted that the wide-scale media campaign to launch an aggression on Syria is a "psychological warfare and a stupidity" which reflects the US weakness.
Boroujerdi stressed that the message of the Iranian government and people is to stand by Syria in the face of any aggression.
He described the use of chemical weapon as baseless, hailing Syria's cooperation with the UN investigation mission on the use of chemical weapon.
Rafsanjani: US targets the whole Middle East region
Chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council in Iran, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, said that the main target of the US is the whole Middle East region.
During the Council's meeting on Saturday, Rafsanjani stressed the strategic importance of Syria in the region as Damascus is the bulwark in front of the Israeli Entity.
He said that a US aggression on Syria could result in a war in the whole region, adding that the Americans can start the war but they will not be able to put an end to it.
Khazae: Iran opposes any military act on Syria
In the same context, Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Khazae, expressed his country's strong opposition to any western aggression on Syria, calling on all the UN member-states to give enough time to the UN inspectors to complete their investigations on the use of chemical weapon.
In an interview with the US New York Times, Khazae said that Iran opposes any military act against Syria because it undermines the chances of reaching a political settlement to the crisis in Syria.
He added that the Syrian government gave Iran assurances of not using the chemical weapons, voicing his country's strong condemnation of the use of these weapons against humanity.
