MOSCOW, (SANA)_ Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Gennady Gatilov said that the arms shipments to the Syrian opposition contradict Geneva statement.

RT website quoted Gatilov as saying on his twitter page ''If it is true that the West started providing the Syrian opposition with weapons, then this goes against the essence and content of Geneva statement.''

Russian Source: West Plans to Send Large Weapon Shipment and Hired Gunmen to Syria

A high-level Russian source warned that western countries are planning to provide armed groups in Syria with a large shipment of weapons in addition to sending hired mercenary gunmen through neighboring countries.

The source told Novosti enws agency that information show that western countries intend to send a large shipment of heavy weapons to militants in Syria, with the weapons including anti-air systems, portable rockets and heavy machineguns, in addition to sending hired foreign militants through a neighboring country, presumably Turkey.

The source described these steps as desperate attempts to change the course of events in Syria in anyway, pointing out to the financial support provided by the west to armed groups in Syria throughout the past stage.

Russian Ambassador in Tehran Calls for Refraining from Arming and Funding Terrorists in Syria

Russian Ambassador in Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan called for refraining from arming and funding terrorists in Syria and work instead to resolve the crisis in it through dialogue and peaceful methods.

This came during Dzhagaryan's meeting with Chairman of Iran's Shura Council's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

In turn, Boroujerdi said that Iran and Russia's viewpoints regarding events in the region and particularly the crisis in Syria are identical, stressing that Iranian-Russian cooperation can result in a peaceful resolution to the Syrian crisis and prevent it from expanding.
