Sep 18, 2012

TEHRAN, (SANA)_ Iran welcomes any initiative that is based on the peaceful solution for the crisis in Syria, meets the demands of the Syrian people, grants the Syrian government the opportunity to continue the reforms process and rejects foreign interference, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said.

In a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Mehmanparast stressed that, during the quartet's Cairo meeting, Iran called for adhering to peaceful solutions for the crisis in Syria, preventing the flow of weapons and militants o it, stopping supplying gunmen with weapons and money and halting the acts of violence.

Mahmanparast added that his country also called for holding a comprehensive national dialogue, renewing Iran's support to the efforts exerted by the Syrian government in the reforms field.

He said Iran proposed to join Iraq and Venezuela to the Quartet Contact Committee.

The Iranian Official pointed out that the acts perpetrated by the armed terrorist groups in Syria and destabilizing it aim at ensuring the security of the Zionist entity.

Regarding Iran's nuclear program, he expressed his country's complete readiness to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warning against the dangers of the Israeli nuclear arsenal on the region.
