NEW YORK, UN, (SANA) - Russia's Deputy U.N. Ambassador Alexander Pankin said that Moscow circulated a draft resolution at the UN Security Council on extending the mission of the United Nations Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS).
In a statement to the AFP, Pankin added that the resolution contains no threats of imposing sanctions as the draft aims at supporting the efforts of the UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan.
He pointed out that the draft supports the suggestion made by Annan on reducing the number of the observers and authorizing the mission to play a bigger political role.
The draft, circulated among U.N. Security Council members on Tuesday, stipulates that a political solution for the crisis in Syria is reached by the Syrians, demanding all sides to immediately begin implementing Annan's plans and the recommendations of the Geneva meeting.
