TEHRAN, (SANA)_The National Security and Foreign Affairs Committee in the Iranian Shura Council discussed during an extraordinary meeting on Monday, attended by the Iranian assistant foreign minister and the representative of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, the latest developments in the Syrian arena.

The Committee spokesman, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, said that the committee discussed the West's persistence in targeting Syria over the past 16 months in an illogical and unjust approach, stressing that the Syrian people and government are confronting foreign interference, especially the terrorist attacks carried out by armed terrorist groups.

Hosseini underlined the importance of protecting Syria's unity, sovereignty and independence, stressing that the Shura Council firmly supports Iran's policies in the region and calls for enhancing relations with Syria.

He lauded the stances of Russia and China on the crisis in Syria, adding that the Geneva and prior meetings showed that the illogical interference won't affect the developments in Syria.
