TEHRAN, (SANA)- Secretary of Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, on Thursday said the international conference intended be held on Syria will contribute to preserving Syria's security and stability, confronting terrorism, stopping foreign interference in the region and delivering humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
During his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov which dealt with the Syrian crisis, Jalili stressed the need to adjust some of the points of the UN envoy to Syria Kofi Annan's plan.
He considered that the best means to settle Syria's problems is through respecting democracy and following elections.
Jalili emphasized the necessity of preventing arms smuggling to the terrorist groups with the aim of preserving security and stability in Syria, adding that the means to take Syria to democracy lies in giving a real opportunity to the reforms.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister hailed Iran's influential and strategic role in the region, describing the meetings of the so-called 'Friends of Syria' as having no influence regarding the developments of the Syrian scene.
Lavrov stressed that to reach a solution to the Syrian crisis requires participation by all the effective and influential parties like Iran in the Moscow meeting.
