BEIJING, (SANA) - Spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Liu Weimin, said that Russia and China oppose foreign intervention in Syria or changing the regime by force.
In a daily press release on Tuesday, Weimin added that Moscow and Beijing believe that there should be an immediate halt of violence in Syria, adding that a political dialogue should start as soon as possible.
He underscored that the international community should provide pivotal support to the UN Envoy Kofi Annan's plan, urging all sides to implement the plan fully and comprehensively.
Russian Foreign Ministry: Gatilov Stressed that Annan's Plan is the Base for Political Settlement in Syria
The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov stressed that Annan's plan is the base of reaching a political settlement in Syria.
Gatilov's remarks came during his meeting with the UN Envoy Kofi Annan in Geneva.
A statement released by the Ministry said that Gatilov stressed that all external sides with connection to the Syrian issue should work together, adding that the international community should coordinate efforts to implement the plan fully and comprehensively.
"Russia is communicating with the Syrian authorities and the opposition groups with the aim of holding a political dialogue. All countries which have influence on the opposition should also work in that way," the statement stipulated.
