BEIRUT, (SANA) – UN Envoy to Syria Kofi Annan affirmed that the sides smuggling weapons through the Lebanese-Syrian borders must be urged to cease these acitons, saying that he discussed this matter with the Lebanese authorities.

In a press conference after talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Friday, Annan said that Lebanon is committed to not allowing its borders to become a place for smuggling weapons into Syria, and that the Lebanese authorities affirmed that the borders aren't used for transporting weapons.

He also said that he discussed the issue of the abducted Lebanese citizens with Mikati, telling their families that the United Nations will do its best to help.
