MOSCOW, (SANA)_The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that ending violence as announced according to the plan of the UN Envoy to Syria, Kofi Annan, has not taken hold due to provocations, bombings and terrorist acts perpetrated by armed opposition groups.
In an interview with Russia 24 Channel on Friday, Lavrov said that some opposition powers in Syria are trying to draw foreign interference.
The Russian Foreign Minister said that everyone has to work genuinely, adding ''Those who have influence over the powers in Syria, including the government and the opposition, have a commitment to use this influence to push them to end violence.''
Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow Supports Efforts to Solve Crisis in Syria
Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East Affairs and Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov, stressed that Moscow supports the efforts exerted by the Syrians with the aim of restoring peace and stability to their country.
The remarks came during his meeting on Friday with a delegation of the Syrian internal opposition, headed by Chairman of the Popular Front for Change and Liberation Qadri Jameel.
Later, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that "The Syrian participants highly esteemed Russia's firm and principled stance which contributed to avoiding a foreign military intervention in the Syrian affairs."
