Foreign Ministry: Terrorist Act in al-Iman Mosque Aims at Spreading Takfiri Thinking

Mar 22, 2013

DAMASCUS, (SANA)- Foreign and Expatriates Ministry on Friday stressed that the terrorist act which targeted scholar Mohammad Said Ramadan al-Bouti bears the hallmarks of al-Qaeda and its allies.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Security Council and the UN Secretary General, the Ministry said that a suicidal terrorist blew himself up on Thursday 21st during a religious lesson held at al-Eyman Mosque in Damascus by Sheikh al-Bouti, adding that "The terrorist bombing claimed the lives of 49 persons and wounded 84 and caused huge material damage."

The Ministry stressed that this terrorist act "indicates the obscurantist and takfiri thinking which those sides seek to spread by all means in Syria and the world to destroy the values of tolerance and moderation on which Islam is based."

The Ministry added that the heinous crime proves that the extremist takfiri terrorism does not respect values or sanctuaries, stressing that the Syrian government is determined to protect the Syrian people against the terrorist acts of the extremist takfiri groups until it cleans the country of the extremist and obscurantist thinking that contradicts the values of mutual living witnessed in Syria throughout ages.

The Ministry added that "The Syrian government calls upon the UN Security Council to condemn this heinous crime and send clear message to the terrorists and the sides which provide them with logistic, political and financial support that the international community is determined to fight terrorism regardless of its justifications."
