Mikdad Briefs Czech Media Delegation on Political Program

Feb 28, 2013

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Faisal al-Mikdad, on Wednesday presented to the visiting Czech media delegation a detailed review of the political program to solve the crisis in Syria and the measures which the government has taken to implement this program.

He wondered "why should some opposition figures and those standing behind them feel afraid of the national dialogue and reconciliation and of working in line with the proposed political program?"

He lashed out at some European countries for standing by al-Qaeda and its offshoot 'Jabhat al-Nusra' in Syria and providing support to them to commit terrorist crimes in Syria, referring particularly to the role played by Britain and France in supporting terrorism.

For their part, the Czech media delegation expressed their happiness to be in Syria, considering their presence as an opportunity to inspect the reality of the events in it so as to be able to convey the facts to the Czech and international public opinion.

They pointed out that some media outlets acted as a tool for further aggravating the crisis in Syria.

Journalists Union's Head: Mainstream Media Issued Orders to Terrorist Groups

Earlier, Head of the Syrian Journalists' Union, Elias Murad, said that the mission of journalists is to convey reality without being biased and work under the light not like those reporters who entered Syria illegally and published misleading reports on the events.

During his meeting with the Czech media delegation, Murad stressed that the Syrian people are stronger than the plot hatched against the country by the west, adding that the Syrians will defend their homeland against terrorism and its misleading media tools.

He noted that the Union has issued a statement underlining the importance of implementing the political solution program and calling for the national opposition forces to participate in the dialogue.

Murad added that some mainstream media even issued orders to the armed terrorist groups, as was the case in some terrorist bombings.

For their part, members of the delegation said that that accusing Syria of restricting the freedom of press is one of the lies against the country, adding that they will convey the reality of the events to their country.
