DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Ministry of Higher Education and the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Damascus on Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement on providing medical and educational aid to refugees holding credit cards form the UNHCR.
The agreement provides for treating sick refugees at the educational hospitals of the Ministry of Higher Education in Damascus, Aleppo and Lattakia for free, including medical, pharmaceutical and clinical treatment in addition to conducting necessary surgeries.
According to the agreement, scholarships will be provided to refugees in Syria to study at the governmental universities in all provinces, meanwhile, the UNHCR will work on purchasing a number of medical equipment and deliver them to the university hospitals by the end of the current year.
Minister of Higher Education, Mohammad Yehia Moalla, stressed that Syria seeks to carry out its duty towards the Arab and other refugees, especially under the current circumstances facing the country, as it will always carry out its humanitarian duties towards all.
For his part, Head of the UNHCR mission in Damascus, Tareq al-Kurdi, indicated the importance of the agreement signed in boosting educational and health cooperation between the two sides which started in 2008.
