Dr. Mikdad: the Government Spares no Effort to Offer Urgent Humanitarian Aid to Citizens Affected by Events

DAMASCUS, (SANA)_Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, stressed the importance of invigorating national and international efforts to implement the plan for meeting humanitarian needs of citizens affected by the current events in Syria.

During the meeting of the committee formed to implement the plan, attended by the UN Resident Representative, the UN Regional Humanitarian Coordinator and representatives of the concerned UN bodies in Syria, Mikdad reviewed Syria's efforts to offer urgent humanitarian help to the affected Syrian citizens.

Dr. Mikdad indicated that the government has offered help to rehabilitate infrastructure and social services in the areas affected by the events, adding that it started implementing the humanitarian aid program agreed upon with the UN organizations.

He underlined the importance of the Cabinet's decision to form a ministerial team tasked with finding solutions to the problems of citizens caused by armed terrorist groups.

For his part, Resident Representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Syria, Dr. Adam Abdul-Mawla, expressed deep gratitude for Syria's efforts to overcome the crisis, indicating that the UN team is ready to deliver aid to the Syrian people in need.

UN Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria, Ridwan Nweiser, reviewed the UN efforts to help Syria, touching upon the negative impact of economic sanctions on all sectors and the lives of the Syrian people.

Representatives of the concerned ministries in Syria reviewed the government's efforts to help citizens affected by the latest events.

Representatives of the UN bodies in Damascus stressed determination to help the Syrian people overcome the crisis, pointing to the facilitations offered by the Syrian government for the humanitarian missions in the country.
