DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Assistant Interior Minister for Civil Affairs Brigadier General Hassan Jalali said that the Ministry has completed all preparations for the People's Assembly elections 2012.
In a statement to SANA, he added that the Ministry handed the governors the poll boxes, invisible ink and curtains for invisible rooms and other equipment to distribute them on the 12152 election centers throughout the Syrian provinces.
He added that the number of citizens who completed 18 years of age and have the right to participate in the elections reached 14,788,644 including the expatriates, military members of Army and police who don’t have the right to elect as long as they are in military service.
He added that election centers were also set up at the air, marine and land outlets to enable citizens leaving or arriving in Syria to practice their right to elect.
He said that the elections will be conducted through identity card only according to the decree 125 for 2011, indicating to the coordination between the Ministry and the Higher Committee for Elections regarding the electoral process as it represents the legislative side to supervise the elections scheduled on May 7th.
