Syria delegation to CWC conference meets Russian delegation and a UN senior official

The Hague, SANA-Delegation of Syrian Arab Republic which participates in the activities of the 21st session of the Conference of the States Parties (CSP) to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), headed by Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faysal Mikdad, met on Tuesday the Russian delegation, chaired by Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Georgy V.Kalamanov.

During the meeting, Mikdad expressed Syria’s gratitude for the technical and political support offered by Russia in the fight against armed terrorist organizations and for the continued coordination between Russia and Syria at the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Kalamanov, for his part affirmed that Syria has fulfilled its obligations regarding the treaty with CWC.

The two sides underlined the importance for continuing coordination between the two countries during the discussions of the CWC conference to come out with resolutions that should be credible and away for any politicization.

Mikdad also met UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Kim Won-Soo, discussing with him issues related to Syria cooperation with the UN.

During the meeting, the talks dealt with the necessity for all countries to commit to the international treaties on combating terrorism and halting any support for terrorists.

Kim Won-Soo appreciated Syria cooperation with the UN and CWC.
