Russian Defense Ministry: Western calls for more sanctions on Russia a response to liberation of thousands of civilians in Aleppo

Moscow, SANA – The Russian Defense Ministry considered that the calls by West to subject Russia to more sanctions came as a response to the Syrian Arab Army’s liberation of more than 80,000 civilians from the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo city who were held hostage by terrorist organizations.

In a statement published by RT website, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry Gen pointed out that while Western politicians claim that they are defending civilians in Aleppo, the terrorist organizations had been using them as human shields for several years.

Konashenkov added that today it became clear that the liberation of more than 80,000 residents of the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo has never been part of the plans of the British, French and US foreign ministries and the German Bundestag, and that’s why they called for new sanctions against Moscow.

He noted that tens of thousands of children are residing in areas to which the Syrian Arab Army restored security and stability, areas which form half of the area of the neighborhoods that are under the control of terrorist organizations who deprived the people for a long time of water, food, and medical assistance, while these locals received all these services in the humanitarian centers established by the Syrian government in cooperation with the Russian side.
