Cuba calls for stopping support to extremist groups in Syria

United Nations, SANA – Cuba called for putting an end to the foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs, reiterating its support for a peaceful solution to the crisis in the country.

During the 32nd session for Human Rights Council held on Tuesday, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations Anayansi Rodriguez called for work to achieve peace and face extremism and foreign interference in Syria to maintain its culture and history.

She voiced rejection of any attempt to undermine Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

Rodriguez expressed concern that the efforts of solving the crisis in Syria conflict with the interests of some parties that want to prolong the armed confrontations in the country, urging the international community, mainly the foreign powers that helped create the extremist groups and the foreign-backed opposition forces, to work to stop training these groups and providing them with funds, arms and equipment.
