Lavrov: Moscow, Doha hope negotiations between Syrian government and opposition would start soon

Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that Moscow and Doha affirmed commitment to Vienna agreements on Syria which stipulate arranging conditions that enable the Syrian people to determine their future by themselves.

“Russia and Qatar hope negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition would start as soon as possible before the end of the current month in light of previous agreements and UN relevant resolutions,” TASS news agency quoted Lavrov as saying following talks held between Russian President Putin and Qatar Emir.

He added the Syrian settlement was on top of the issues discussed as well as intensifying the efforts to combat terrorism.
