U.S. Senator: War in Syria ends when foreign support to terrorists stops

Damascus, SANA – The U.S. senator Richard Black stressed that the war on Syria will end when the foreign countries stop arming and funding the terrorists in Syria.

In an interview with al-Mayadeen TV on Wednesday, Black said the US was wrong in its approach to arm these groups, including Jabhat al-Nusra, with the U.S.-made Tau missiles.

He highlighted that 500 Tau missiles were delivered through Saudi Arabia to Jabhat al-Nusra, noting that the war on Syria was a decision made by “Islamist groups” and intelligence agencies to change the “regime” there.

Syria has enjoyed the higher level of freedom and equality among all Arab countries, said Black.

He noted that the plan to topple the Syrian government was forged in 2001 and its implementation started in 2011.

Now and after ten years of the planning and five years of the war, no one repel is seen to represent the Syrian people, as the majority of the Syrians still support President Bashar al-Assad and elected him in last year’s elections, Black added.

The U.S. official said President al-Assad did not choose to go to war, rather the war was waged by the Brotherhood and some foreign intelligent agencies.

He added he believed there is wide regret at the highest level of the U.S. administration about demanding President al-Assad’s departure, noting that he thinks that all the western countries realize today that if President al-Assad should leave, the only alternative would be al-Qaeda or ISIS or any of the other radical terrorist organizations.

Black, who is a U.S. Republican Senator for the State of Virginia, sent a letter Tuesday to President al-Assad in which he said the war on Syria was not legal and was an aggression by foreign forces aimed to force a client state.
