Cabinet discusses services issues including performance of electricity sector

Damascus, SANA – The Cabinet discussed in its weekly session on Tuesday a number of services and economic issues, including the state of prices in the market and fuel distribution.

Chairing the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi stressed the need to overcome difficulties affecting the performance of the electricity sector, calling for reducing rationing hours, in addition to calling for ensuring the availability of petroleum products and improving the quality of transport services.

He also said that the government is following up on all corruption cases reported by the media, including ones reported on social networking sites, in addition to calling for reducing the flow of Turkish products into Syrian markets during the negative impact of this phenomenon on local economy and products.

Al-Halaqi also stressed the need to implement the decision on providing loans for medium and small projects which was issued four months ago.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs, Local Administration Minister Omar Ghalawanji said that the status of drinking water supplies is stable and that flour reserves have increased, while Governor of the Central Bank of Syria Adib Mayyaleh reviewed the status of financial and monetary sectors and the steps taken to improve the Syrian Pound exchange rate.

The Cabinet also finalized procedures to issue a bill on canceling military training courses in non-military state universities and institutes.
