Abdullahian: Iran’s position on Syria won’t change

Tehran, SANA- Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian reiterated his country’s supportive stance toward Syria in various domains, promising no change in this position.

“This stance did not and will never change, and the countries backing terrorism should stop financing and arming the terrorist groups in compliance with the UN Security Council’s relevant resolutions,” said Abdullahian during a meeting with Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi in Tehran on Saturday.

Both sides discussed the latest developments in the region, and al-Zoubi reviewed the attacks which the Syrian media are being exposed to at the hands of the terrorist organizations.

He expressed appreciation of Iran’s support for Syria in the face of the terrorist war waged against it.

Earlier, al-Zoubi discussed with Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati in a separate meeting means of boosting and developing media and news cooperation between press institutions in Syria and Iran to confront terrorism and Takfiri mentality.

The Minister referred to the terrorist war being launched against Syria, including media sector which has encountered terrorist attacks as many of Syrian journalists were martyred and a lot of media centers came under destruction in a way to prevent the national media from conveying the reality of events to the whole world.

“Iran has great expertise in the war media and we will benefit from it in our war against terrorism, Minister al-Zoubi said.

He affirmed the importance of signing a memo of understanding on media cooperation between the two sides, adding that this will boost bilateral cooperation against the dangers which pose threat to the region and its identity.

Jannati, for his part, underlined his country’s continued support to Syria, on all levels, particularly in media field, describing relations between the two countries as strategic and distinguished.

He added that the danger of terrorism which hit Syria will affect its supporters and financers, hailing the wisdom of President Bashar al-Assad and the struggle and heroism of the Syrian people and army.

In the same context, Information Minister discussed with Director of Iranian Radio & Television Mohammad Sar-Afraz , media cooperation in various domains, mainly in satellite and TV broadcast, news, technical and drama cooperation and exchanging expertise.

The Syrian delegation briefed the Iranian side on the attacks committed by the armed terrorist organizations against media institutions which targeted the infrastructure, media cadres and technical equipment, asserting that the sabotage acts targeted all aspects of media work.

In turn, Sar- Afraz expressed readiness to support the media sector in Syria, with the two sides agree to form a joint field work committee for studying means of the joint work and cooperation to confront the current challenges.

Later, Information Minister said in a statement that the visit aims at attending the meetings of the 8th session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Radio and Television Union, meeting public and private media sectors in Iran and discussing the bilateral media relations and deepening them.

He added the visit also meant to discuss a number of media issues in vocational side, joint cooperation, exchanging expertise in the crises and wars and getting acquainted with the Iranian experiences at these times.

Minister al-Zoubi described the talks he held with the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati and Director of Iranian Radio and Television Sar-Afraz as “deep and responsible”, paving the way for further professional cooperation in the joint media work.
