PM: Health sector still effective, important role of syndicates is recognized

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi hailed on Thursday the role of medical syndicates and organizations and health institutions in propping up the national efforts to provide the best possible healthcare services to the citizens.

Premier al-Halqi was speaking to the reporters following the end of the tenth General Conference of the Dentists’ Syndicate, at which a new Board was elected.

He spoke optimistically of the general health situation in the country, stressing that the health sector is still highly effective in terms of providing various preventive and treatment services free of charge.

He noted that work is going on for rehabilitating the hospitals and other health facilities that sustained damage due to terrorist attacks, lauding the significant role played by the concerned unions and organizations to the effect of improving and supporting the sector medically, technically and scientifically.

Addressing the conference earlier, Health Minister Nizar Yazigi vowed that the Ministry will continue to support the efforts of the Dentists’ Syndicate aimed at upgrading the level of medical services provided to the citizens.

Yazigi pointed out that the Ministry works on rearranging its priorities to improve the public health and continue providing necessary health services and medicines to all citizens in all areas.

He also made particular reference to the issue of expanding the scope of emergency and first aid services, in addition to securing the needs of the healthcare sectors, including the dental sector where more focus must be placed on training and qualifying medical cadres of different specializations.
