Social Affairs Ministry and Oxfam sign cooperation agreement

Damascus, SANA – The Ministry of Social Affairs and Oxfam signed on Wednesday a cooperation agreement on a number social issues which focus on raising awareness about poverty and implementing projects for sustainable development on local levels to suit the conditions spawned by the current crisis.

The agreement also covers social care that targets women and children.

Minister of Social Affairs Kinda al-Shammat pointed out in a press statement that the Ministry is fully devoted to these issues which are accompanied by social phenomena resulting from the terrorist war waged against Syria.

Minister Shammat stressed the importance of Oxfam’s role in working in Syria, noting that the organization’s expertise in social issues can provide great benefits to the ministry and its work.

For his part, the director of Oxfam in Syria Motaz Adham said that signing the agreement comes within the framework of the expansion plan of the organization, a plan that focuses on issues with big social impact, adding that most areas in Syria and categories specified by the Ministry and Oxfam would benefit from this agreement.

Oxfam is an International confederation of 17 organizations working together with partners and local communities in more than 90 countries. Oxfam started since July 2013 to respond to the urgent need in sectors of water supply, sanitation and improving hygiene inside Syria.
