Damascus, SANA – The Civil Democratic Gathering of Syrian Kurds on Friday organized a celebration of Newroz holiday and Mother’s Day at Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.
The celebration, which was sponsored by the State Ministry for National Reconciliation Affairs, included various artistic performance reflecting Syria’s cultural diversity.
Attending the event, State Minister for National Reconciliation Affairs Ali Haidar said that Newroz symbolizes the triumph of righteousness over evil and tyranny, and that it’s a holiday for all Syrians because they constitute one social fabric.
In turn, member of the higher committee of secretaries for the Gathering Iman Ibrahim stressed the need to “continue fighting the forces of injustice and terrorism until dawn breaks” and asserted that Syria will remain impervious to conspiracies and will always be the haven and home of those who believe in love, liberty, and peace.
The event was attended by a number of official, political, civil, and social figures, including the Armenian Ambassador in Damascus, a representative of the Iranian Embassy, and members of national opposition parties.
Newroz, or Nowruz (there are multiple spellings of the name), marks the first day of spring or Equinox. It is observed as a holiday by a variety of cultures and ethnic groups around the world, particularly in the Middle East and Asia. The UN General Assembly recognized March 21st as the International Day of Nowruz in 2010.
