People’s Assembly reelects al-Laham as Speaker

Damascus, SANA. The People’s Assembly reelected Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham as Speaker of Assembly during a regular session on Wednesday.

Al-Lahham received 173 votes, while Assembly member Maria Saadeh received 20 votes. There were 19 blank ballots and one null ballot in the voting in which 213 members participated.

Speaker al-Lahham said his reelection motivates him to work harder and improve the Assembly’s performance to best serve the country and citizens.

He stressed the need for Assembly members to be true representatives of the patriotic and dauntless Syrian people who are committed to national unity, lauding the sacrifices of Syrian Arab Army and its efforts to restore security and stability to the homeland.

The Assembly also reelected Fehmi Hassan as Deputy Speaker, receiving 195 votes. There were 9 blank ballots and 2 null ballots in the vote in which 206 members participated.

The Assembly elected Rami al-Saleh and Khalid al-Aboud as Secretaries in which al-Saleh received 192 votes, while al-Aboud received 137 votes.

It also elected Abdulsalam Dahmoush and Iskandar Jaradeh as observers, with Dahmoush receiving 175 votes, while Jaradeh received 116 votes.
