Ghabbash calls for supporting Syria to achieve Sustainable Development Goals

Cairo, SANA- Syrian Health Minister, Hasan Al-Ghabbash, affirmed the importance of supporting Syria to achieve global and regional strategic targets and the sustainable development goals in addition to stopping aggression and acts of terrorism in the country, as well as removing the unilateral coercive measures and contributing to the reconstruction process.

Ghabbasg said in a statement at the 69th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, held in Cairo, that Syria has participated in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – SDG Summit based on its belief in the importance of international cooperation to promote development and prosperity and its commitment of international consensus in this regard.

Syria has achieved stable growth rates over the last millennium and implemented reform plans that realized remarkable improvements in human development, particularly the health, education, housing services and women’s empowerment, the minister added.

He also indicated that the situation has changed completely since 2011 in light of the terrorist war on Syria which rendered a significant proportion of health facilities and human resources out of service and disabled population’s access to health services as well.

The 69th session of the World Health Organisation’s Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean wrapped up Thursday, held in Cairo, Egypt, from 10 to 13 October 2022 under the theme “Reaching the Sustainable Development Goals in the post-COVID-19 age.”
