Participants in Int’l Conference on Return of Refugees visit Harjala makeshift center

Damascus, SANA_ Participants in the Conference on the Return of Refugees on Thursday toured the facilities of al-Harjala makeshift center, south of the capital Damascus.

During the visit, humanitarian aid was delivered and various activities were organized.

The participants were briefed on the work of the medical point in the makeshift, the medical services provided to the displaced, and the precautionary measures applied to address the Corona epidemic.

They listened to an explanation about the work mechanism followed at the point, then they attended a football match for children residing with their families in the center and honored them by distributing symbolic gifts to them.

The participants also briefed on the work of supervisors and workers at the makeshift in preparing meals for the displaced, then they toured the center’s school complex.

The Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf, the Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Ayman Sousan, Head of the National Center for Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Mikhail Mezentsev, Deputy Minister of Health of Russia Salagay Aligovich the Governor of Damascus Countryside, Alaa Munir Ibrahim, and a number of heads of participating delegations, ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions in Damascus participated in the visit.

Minister Makhlouf said that Syria is fully prepared to ensure the return of Syrian refugees abroad, and therefore has prepared shelters, rehabilitated infrastructure, and provides medical, educational and cultural care.
Sousan indicated that the tour to the makeshift center falls within the framework of the activities of the International Conference to brief the participants on the efforts made by the government to take care of the displaced and provide them with a decent life.

He hoped that the conference will be a starting point for drawing the attention of the international community to the humanitarian issues in Syria, stop obstructing the return of refugees and to lift the unjust sanctions and inhuman economic blockade that directly affects the reconstruction process that facilitates their return.

Major General Mikhail Mezentsev stated that Russia is seeking with Syria’s neighboring countries to organize a regular and safe return of refugees, pointing out to the importance of joint action between the two friendly countries to achieve the desired goals.

Evgeny Primakov, a Member of the State Duma, and head of the Russian Federal Agency for International Humanitarian Cooperation, said his country provided aid to the displaced in the center, and emphasized his country’s commitment to helping the Syrian people.

He said that during Wednesday and Thursday, about 76 tons of humanitarian aid for children were delivered, in addition to wheelchairs and some medical supplies.

Damascus Countryside Governor affirmed that the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people aimed at hampering the efforts of the State in the reconstruction process, but the government continues to host refugees and displaced persons, and facilitate their return to their areas from which they were forcibly displaced due to terrorism.

He stressed that the lifting of these unjust measures will contribute to the return of the refugees and will accelerate the process of rebuilding the infrastructure.
