Kremlin: Turkish soldiers killed in Idleb were in areas where terrorists were present

Moscow, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with the permanent members in the Russian Security Council on Friday that the situation in Idleb province after the Turkish regime had acknowledged the death of 33 of its soldiers and the wounding of 32 others who had been in areas in Idleb were terrorists were positioned.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that in the course of the meeting, the situation in Idleb was discussed in detail, and that Russia is deeply concerned due to to escalating situation in this area of Syria as a result of the provocations by terrorist groups which increased their attacks against the Syrian Arab Army.

Peskov added that the Turkish soldiers who had been killed in Idleb were in areas where terrorists were positioned, noting that these terrorists include many foreign mercenaries in including citizens from the former Soviet Union.

He said that Ankara did not inform the Russian side of the presence of its soldiers in this area despite Russia’s recurring requests for it do so.

Peskov pointed out that one of the tasks of observation points belonging to the Turkish occupation forces should be preventing terrorists from carrying out hostile and terrorists acts against Russian military facilities, but Turkey did not implement that.

The participants in the meeting said that the Turkish regime’s soldiers were in areas where they had no right to be, calling on Ankara to take all measures to ensure the safety of Russian citizens and diplomatic missions in Turkey.
