Gatilov: Helsinki summit creates opportunity to resolve crisis in Syria

Moscow, SANA- Russia’s permanent representative to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov said that Helsinki recent summit between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump is good opportunity to find a common ground for resolving a number of issues related to the crisis in Syria.

Sputnik quoted Gatilov as saying that the crisis in Syria was one of the main topics discussed at the Helsinki summit. “Today we have an opportunity to reach common ground on a range of issues related to the settlement of the crisis in this country,” he added.

Gatilov pointed out that the UN officials view this summit positively based on the theory that the agreement between Russia and US on resolving the crisis in Syria will have a positive impact on the entire settlement process.

On Monday, the Presidents of Russia and the United States held talks in Finland’s capital of Helsinki, discussing a range of issues, including Russia’s alleged meddling in the US election, the political process in Syria and others issues.

He said that there is no talk currently on holding a new congress for the Syrian national dialogue.
