Russia, UN to intensify efforts for political solution in Syria

Moscow, SANA – Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with Deputy Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Syria, Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, means of boosting cooperation between Russia and the UN to solve the crisis in Syria and prospects of settlement.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated that the two sides have exchanged views on the situation in Syria and the progress made to reach a political settlement that is based on the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254 and the results of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference held in Sochi city.

In the same context, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin stressed his country’s readiness to coordinate efforts with the UN to address humanitarian problems in Syria.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Fomin made his remarks during his meeting with Ramzy on the sidelines of the 7th Moscow Conference on International Security.

Fomin highlighted the Russian efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the needy people in Syria, adding that the two sides agreed on continuing joint communications to discuss process of political settlement to the crisis in the country.
